Being a TCK
Defination of TCK - A Third culture Kid is someone who’s parents are from one culture (America) and you live in another culture (UK) so therefore create your own culture - a blend of the two - a third culture.
Being a Third Culture Kid can sometimes mean you have to bite your tounge on certain issues.
For example take this conversation…
Friend: How is all the packing going?
Me: Well, slow, its hard to know what to keep, what to get rid of and when to get rid of it. The lag time for getting rid of stuff can take a while so I’m trying to decide what to get rid of and when.
Friend: Yeah, but I guess eveyone experiences that when they move. I remeber thinking when we moved from x to y thinking shall I pack this now or will I need it in the next week?
Me: Yeah, I guess so.
What I wanted to say was…. well, imagine trying to get rid of all you furniture and clear out everything down to the bare essentials and then pack 1/2 your stuff in a sea container that you won’t see for 8 - 10 weeks and then all the other stuff you have to fit into 8 suitcases for 4 people. You try to decide when to sell your bed and how long you are willing to sleep on the floor for or when to get rid of the washing machine, etc, etc
Some people just haven’t got a clue but I bit my toungue and just said ’Yeah, I guess so’ - are you proud of me?!

i’m proud of you.
